Bradden
C. Backer has
been representing clients in employment and labor matters since
1982. Although
his practice focuses principally on representing businesses,
he also represents employees in non-litigation contexts, such
as employment contract negotiations and separations.
Brad was selected by his peers as a “Super
Lawyer” each year the designation was available in Wisconsin.
He was included in the 2010, 2009 and 2008 editions of Best
Lawyers in America.
Brad has
written widely about employment matters and is a co-author of
the State Bar’s award-winning Hiring
and Firing in Wisconsin and its three-volume series, Wisconsin
Employment Law. He also has authored or co-authored articles
in The Wisconsin Lawyer about restrictive covenant agreements,
important differences between the federal Americans with Disabilities
Act and its Wisconsin counterpart and Wisconsin’s Privacy
Act. He frequently speaks about employment
matters, preferring discussions to lectures.
After securing a useful
career foundation in medieval history in 1978 and graduating
Phi Betta Kappa from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he
received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin. He
was awarded Order of the COIF and served as an author and editor
on The
Wisconsin Law Review. He served as a judicial intern to
the late Honorable Thomas E. Fairchild of the United States Court
of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and after law school served
as Clerk for the late Honorable John D. Butzner of the United
State Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia.
He currently serves as a member of the Board of
Directors of the Labor and Employment section of the Wisconsin
State Bar. He is also a Director of the Wintergreen Funds, a mutual
fund complex with over $1 billion in assets under management.
Brad lives in Kenosha
with his wife, Rabbi Dena Feingold. Their two children have
abandoned them to attend college in Manhattan.
